The Zhumell company specializes in binoculars, but their product line extends into telescopes, spotting scopes, riflescopes and other accessories. The Zhumell line of telescopes offer a 3 year no-fault warranty on all products, other than a majority of their binoculars which offers a 25 year no-fault warranty. The different types of Zhumell telescopes which are available for purchase are Dobsonian, Reflector, Refractor, Catadioptric, and Brass Nautical. The company also provides builder kits. Zhumell telescopes are not available for sale directly from the company, but need to be purchased through retailers. The Zhumell website offers a list of authorized Zhumell retailers, and many of these companies offer purchasing online.
The cost of a Zhumell telescope ranges from as little as $20 to as much as $4,000. They are often sold at a less expensive cost than other name brand telescopes, but the company has not been in the market for very long. Zhumell originally started with sport optics. Due to this factor, there is not a lot of information circulating about Zhumell, but the product reviews seem to be on the positive side. When there is a telescope product from a more established company, one can usually find a comparable Zhumell product for sale. However, it is speculated that once Zhumell digs out a niche for themselves, the cost of their products will stop being low enough to undercut the competition.
Another consideration is the Zhumell is manufactured by GSO (Guan Sheng Optical) which is based out of Taiwan, though this is not unusual for telescopes. Most of the references to Zhumell will be in relation to binoculars, which can also be used for amateur astronomy. However, one will need to be sure they acquire a set of binoculars which has the same types of optical coating and lenses necessary for astronomy.
