Meade Instruments Corporation was founded in 1972 as a mail-order supplier of small refracting telescopes. As the company's sales grew, so did its product line. In 1977 Meade introduced its first in-house manufactured telescopes, models 628 and 826, which were 6 inch and 8 inch reflectors. In the year of 1986 Meade Instruments was labeled as the largest and leading manufacturer of telescopes for serious amateurs in the world. This was followed by Meade Instruments being the brand name telescope most sold in every country in the world.
In addition to telescopes, Meade Instruments offers binoculars, sports optics, microscopes, and imagers. All Meade Instruments telescopes have a one year warranty where the product will be repaired or replaced if returned. However, their customer service description states that they try to be fair to the customer even if the product is out of its warranty. Their main objective is to ensure that the customer is satisfied with their product, and the company who makes the product. The Meade Instruments factory is located in Irvine, California and the companys website gives a thorough explanation of how each telescope is built.
Although there is no option to buy Meade Instruments telescopes directly from the manufacturer, there are several online options which carry Meade products. The Meade website even gives a detailed list of dealers which sell the entire line of Meade products. As well as being available for sale in the United States, Meade does sell their products internationally. There are also retail stores which carry Meade products.
Meade Instruments telescopes focus more on serious amateurs, and thus one will not find many options below $100. The most expensive Meade Instruments telescope is upwards of $12,000. However, the quality one receives from these products is well worth the price paid.

From what I have found and read, if you buy a Meade telescope and then have problems with it after warranty you are pretty much left out in the cold to buy another one. They offer no way to buy replacement parts. You have no other choice than to pay the shipping to to meade and to pay for them to fix it even if your scope is out of warranty. Imagine if when you buy a Ford Mustang, need a headlight and then the maker tells you that you have to ship the car across the country for them to replace the headlight. Do your self a favor, buy something else.
